TUINA and THAI Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork 612.229.5150 6 Cumberland Street Brunswick, ME 04011 Massage allows the body to engage in healing itself through unblocking energetic pathways and stimulating organ systems to increase or decrease their activity. Massage is wonderful for when you just don't feel like your best self. It gets things moving and allows for freer thought, breath, and movement. I practice a blend of modalities to encourage relaxation and treat acute and chronic pain, as well as treat specific conditions such as depression and anxiety, migraines, fatigue, and digestive issues. Thai massage, often called lazy man’s yoga, is done in loose clothing on a mat on the floor, it involves assisted stretching and pressing and tapping the energy meridians of the body in order to create balance throughout. It leaves the recipient energized and grounded. TuiNa targets aches and pains and specific medical conditions though a deep systematic terrain, and is based in Traditional Chinese Medical Theory, best known for acupuncture here in the west. It is done on the table and uses deep and vigorous manipulation to affect soft tissue, structural alignment, and the meridian systems, and to open and allow qi and blood flow through blocked or painful areas. This modality is also excellent for clearing the mind, grounding, and energizing. Cupping and Gua Sha, are TCM techniques that help to clear congested areas in the muscle tissue, and are very effective at eliminating pain. Fire cupping is especially effective on sore muscles. Fire is put in and then removed from glass cups to remove the oxygen and then placed onto the skin to act as a vacuum to bring up congested tissue. Gua Sha is a scraping technique which warms and brings stuck energy to the surface, particularly good for chronic pain. |
